Skype 2012: Friday Feb 3:

On Friday January 13, Shorecrest French students will be speaking via Skype to students learning English in our sister-school in Châlons-en-Champagne, France. All of the French students will be coming to Shorecrest in February as part of our annual Shorecrest/Bayen exchange, so they are looking forward to speaking face-to-face with the Shorecrest students who will be hosting them. We have done this in the past and although the teachers try to organize a serious, cultural question and answer session, it usually turns into lots of giggling and talking in both languages about school life and weekend activities. Seeing and speaking to each other before the actual exchange eases a lot of the anxiety associated with coming to live with a new family in a strange country.

The students are also well connected through Facebook and emails. As this turns into a regular event over the next five Fridays before their actual arrival, the conversations will become more formal as we try to learn about each other's schools, cities and current events. If you are a Shorecrest parent who has agreed to open your home to one of these French students in February, you are more than welcome to stop by LH-3 any Friday between 10:00 - 11:00 to meet "your" French student!
